Our book club runs in two age groups: 5–10 and 11–14. Meetings happen weekly or biweekly for 60 minutes. Kids read (or listen) to a story, then share their thoughts in a friendly, no-pressure discussion.
Each session also includes a short activity like drawing a favorite scene, making a prediction, or creating a “character card.”
We’ll meet as either one-on-one or small groups of up to 5, so everyone can be heard.
Kids will learn how to follow a story, talk about characters and events, and express their thoughts clearly. They’ll practice comprehension through “find it in the book” moments and build confidence as readers.
Follow a story by naming key parts (characters, setting, beginning/middle/end).
Talk about what they notice (favorite character, problem, feelings, and big events).
Use simple evidence by pointing to what happened in the book (“I think because…”).
Grow confidence speaking up with kind turn-taking and discussion rules.
Build reading joy by discovering stories they want to choose again.
Understand plot and themes by explaining what the story is really saying.
Make stronger predictions and connections (text-to-text, text-to-self, text-to-world).
Support ideas with details from the book (quotes, scenes, or character choices).
Practice discussion skills: listening, responding, disagreeing respectfully, and asking deeper questions.
Improve literacy habits by choosing books aligned to their interests and level.
Individual lessons are charged at US$30/hour.
